Jewel Mist

So exactly who is Jewel Mist ? My pen name is Jewel Mist while the behind the scenes name is Sherry Owens. I started teaching in a three room school house in Eastern Oregon in 1968. From there I taught in several schools and in several states. The grades ranged from high school to university where I taught English As A Second Language and Composition Writing. Along the way, I worked briefly for the La Grande, Oregon newspaper. Over the years I continued to write taking time out to breed and show Arabian horses. We have a farm in Southern Indiana where both my husband, Ron and I have retired. He is formerly a Kentucky boy, where as I am a Westerner from Oregon. We met via mail when I was in collage through my roommate. We lost contact for many years as I thought he had been killed in Vietnam. After going to the Wall, I realized he was still alive. We made contact and both being single, we married and the rest is history!

I started writing when I was nine. Silly one sentence things. Someone told me along the path that you need to write about what you know, and since then I acquired enough life experiences to fill the pages. Often though I would finish the work and put it away thinking it wasn't ready. This was the case with Star Over Askar. I didn't think anyone would be interested in what I knew about that country from my many contacts with Afgan families. The book is pure fiction, but it was fun to write. I mentally put myself in the middle of the 80's conflict there, and asked what kind of trouble would I find for myself? From that point on Lillian Campbell was created.

My next novel is somewhat different than a broad international one. It is centered along the Rogue River in Oregon where my grandmother lived as a very young child. My great-grandfather led two wagon trains West, and with all this history a story soon emerged. It is still birthing itself though.

Writing is a passionate art. It is hard to reject. Addictive and alluring, a writer succumbs and creates a world of his/her choosing. The rest is left to the reader to judge.

Aletha V. Smithson

So exactly who is Aletha Smithson ? On a winding, angling, gravel road, half way between the tiny hamlets of Joetown and Frytown, Iowa, Aletha Smithson spent the first five years of her life. It was in this small rural community, in the heart of Amish and Mennonite people, she was raised. At the age of seven her family moved from the farm to the small nearby town of Kalona, Iowa.

Raised in a Christian home she was schooled in the value of a legalistic religion but later in life shed the vanity of legalism often found in religion, and experienced the power and love of God bound in the truth of the Word of God by coming face to face with Jesus Christ, her Savior, King and best friend. From this relationship she has shared her love of writing.

A prayer accompanies every piece of work trusting there may be something in the content to cause the reader to join with me in praise or prayer and experience the power of a God who loves them enough to die for them. I also share these lines to encourage the readers heart to listen to the call of the Spirit of God and search their own heart to find the one true God. "I've really found nothing else worth writing about. God reveals Himself to me in some way every day. I don't want to miss it and I don't my readers to miss it."

Vicki Taylor

So exactly who is Vicki Taylor ? As related by Celia Gibson - teaching leader; Columbus Evening Women's Class: As I read Vicki Taylor's poems and the commentaries that followed, I realized God's grace to me in letting me see that this is exactly what has happened to this lovely woman in my class. Her journey to that vibrant relationship is found in these poems, from the time that God captured her heart as a child in her Grandmother's house, to putting her with just the right man to marry (even though she didn't know it was the Lord who chose him, not her), to my favorite poem about the fellowship around the dining room table, which reminded me of the love and joy that was shared around the table in my childhood home.

That vibrant relationship with the Lord has now turned into a passion to commit without reservation to lead in the cause of Christ in the world. Her desire for others to know the Lord she loves so much is very evident in her poems and commentaries, and I believe that her passion will draw you to the Lord if you do not know him. If you do know the Lord and belong to him, these poems will give you the desire to have more vibrancy in your relationship with him. I know that Vicki desires to bring glory to God in all that she does, and so I can imagine him smiling on you and folding you in his arms as you read her inspiring and insightful thoughts.

In this book, you'll read those letters and almost 50 more. The letters, along with Bill's commentary, address topics as diverse as political correctness, pornography, the sanctity of life, and others.

Just as importantly, you'll also find Bill's thoughts on why more Christians should write letters to the editor, and tips on how to do so effectively. For too long, the Church has stood on the sidelines and watched as the culture has been redefined.

Royce Boyles

So exactly who is Royce Boyles ? Royce Boyles was captivated by baseball as a youngster. Fascination came riding into his life primarily on the bat of Milwaukee Braves third baseman Eddie Mathews. The Wisconsin native was fascinated by play-by-play radio descriptions of major league baseball, and by announcer Earl Gillespie. When his parents, Frank and Stella Boyles took him to his first major league game at Milwaukee County Stadium in 1958, there was no turning back from a lifelong love of sports.

Like most Wisconsinites in the 1960's, Boyles was absorbed by the greatness of Vince Lombardi and his teams. While working as a caddy at Bull's Eye Country Club, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, he had the privilege of carrying Mr. Lombardi's clubs about "the length of two football fields, to Coach Lombardi’s car". For his efforts, Royce received a one dollar tip and an autograph from the Great Coach. The signature and memory have been prized possessions for 45 years.

Bobby Johnson, a grade school and high school friend served as Lombardi's caddy that day, and graciously offered Boyles a chance to carry the bag. To his friend, who happens to be Native American, Royce is grateful to this day.

While serving as a television announcer in Green Bay during the early 1970's, he met Dave Robinson. Following Robby's trade to Washington in 1973, the two had not seen each other for nearly thirty years, when they miraculously encountered each other in 2004. The rest is history.

Now living in rural Rock Springs, Wisconsin, near Baraboo, Boyles resides with his German Shepard Jamie, and cats Mop and "T".

Two years later Trevis found his first publisher in Elmore Productions.
