"I was named after my mother’s dog, Princess Sparkle, an award-winning West Highland White Terrier. My mother is a renowned dog groomer and moved me and my sisters often in her quest for self-gratification until she attended a groomer's convention in Ever Autumn, Michigan. Mother claims she fell in love with the town's charm, but I think what really charmed her was the thickness of the mayor’s wallet. But when Daddy Mayor lost re-election, Ever Autumn lost its appeal for Mom and she moved on. My sisters and I stayed behind. I married the first guy who asked me (good thing I loved him a whole lot) and changed my name.
"For awhile I followed parental footsteps into the dog grooming biz, but when I tried to kick the coffee habit, I turned mean and spent a lot of time writing poison pen letters to the local newspaper. They offered me a job as a new/gossip columnist and that's when I discovered my real 'life calling.' Now, instead of grooming poodles to look like peacocks (aka peak-a-doodles), I channel my creativity into my stories. My husband has a career in finance and entertainment, and so we divide our time between Ever Autumn and a quaint Southern 'burb outside of Memphis. I am also owned by a collection of ex-stray cats who claim to be my 'mews' because they inspire me.
My novel, Southern Exposure, is a romantic comedy; the story of a runaway bride who meets her destiny in an obscure Georgia town comprised of an outlaw pig, the best fried chicken in the South, and a mouthwatering mayor who thinks she's trouble. So exactly who is Daniel Meyer ? While growing up in Louisville, Kentucky, Daniel Meyer often felt the presence of eyes upon him. One by one such oddities as aliens, guardian angels and peeping-Toms were ruled out and the piercing gaze of gargoyles was discovered.
Although the muse of the novel has preoccupied much of his writing endeavors, Daniel has increasingly found the need to research, photograph, write and commune with gargoyles across the country. He has writing and photography credits in several magazines and websites on the topic of gargoyles and other subjects.
He attended the University of Louisville and gathered BA and MS degrees in biology receiving teaching and research grants along the way. He holds a position with the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness as an Environmental Health Specialist.
Daniel is the father of one son, Christopher, and lives with his dog-Gabby, and a scorpion named Tucson…and, yes, gargoyles are perched from mantle, bookcase and windowsill alike.
The gargoyle sites and photographs found in this article are included in "The Gargoyles and Grotesques of the Ohio River Valley" (Copyright 2009) which is available at Booklocker.com, Amazon.com and other online and retail outlets. So exactly who is Jewel Mist ? My pen name is Jewel Mist while the behind the scenes name is Sherry Owens. I started teaching in a three room school house in Eastern Oregon in 1968. From there I taught in several schools and in several states. The grades ranged from high school to university where I taught English As A Second Language and Composition Writing. Along the way, I worked briefly for the La Grande, Oregon newspaper. Over the years I continued to write taking time out to breed and show Arabian horses. We have a farm in Southern Indiana where both my husband, Ron and I have retired. He is formerly a Kentucky boy, where as I am a Westerner from Oregon. We met via mail when I was in collage through my roommate. We lost contact for many years as I thought he had been killed in Vietnam. After going to the Wall, I realized he was still alive. We made contact and both being single, we married and the rest is history!
I started writing when I was nine. Silly one sentence things. Someone told me along the path that you need to write about what you know, and since then I acquired enough life experiences to fill the pages. Often though I would finish the work and put it away thinking it wasn't ready. This was the case with Star Over Askar. I didn't think anyone would be interested in what I knew about that country from my many contacts with Afgan families. The book is pure fiction, but it was fun to write. I mentally put myself in the middle of the 80's conflict there, and asked what kind of trouble would I find for myself? From that point on Lillian Campbell was created.
My next novel is somewhat different than a broad international one. It is centered along the Rogue River in Oregon where my grandmother lived as a very young child. My great-grandfather led two wagon trains West, and with all this history a story soon emerged. It is still birthing itself though.
Writing is a passionate art. It is hard to reject. Addictive and alluring, a writer succumbs and creates a world of his/her choosing. The rest is left to the reader to judge.

"No," he said, "love is the fundamental explanation for every human act; love is the basic drive of human life." Only now, forty-five years later, has he written the book that proves his point, titled, Authentic Love: Theory and Therapy.
Though Authentic Love required "only" a few decades to write, reviewers are now acclaiming the work as "groundbreaking," "revolutionary," and "a masterpiece." It is a professional theory, but written for everyone because, as Brennan says, "Like politics, love is far too important to be left to the professionals, nor do professionals have a comer on that market." The rave reviews can be seen on Brennan's website, at www.brennanmullaney.com
Brennan lives in Louisville with Joyce, his wife of forty-four years. Speaking of love in a chapter on marriage relationships, he tells the wild story of proposing to Joyce four hours after they met.
